Filmed in Columbia, SC, the project also served as a one-of-a-kind experience for local youth. Through DJ’s nonprofit, six student ambassadors from the DJ Rowell Foundation were given the rare opportunity to work on set—an experience made possible through partnerships with their schools and principals. For many, it was a once-in-a-lifetime glimpse into the world of filmmaking.
A First-Time Producer Who Defied The Odds
Though The Love Doctor marks DJ Rowell’s sixth film appearance and third lead role, it is his debut as a producer—and that distinction is meaningful. In an industry where new producers often lack resources or backing, Rowell broke the mold. Not only did he co-write and star in the film, he helped secure financing, manage the day-to-day operations, and steer the creative vision from concept to completion.
His success speaks volumes: Rowell’s ability to lead, execute, and inspire makes him a powerful new voice in entertainment—and a rising leader redefining what’s possible for creatives from the Carolinas.
A Star-Studded Cast, A Powerful Debut
Rowell assembled an impressive cast and crew, attracting some of Hollywood’s most recognized talents to his vision. Leading the project is Living Single icon TC Carson, making his directorial debut. Known also for his voice work in God of War, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Tyler Perry’s She’s the People, Carson brings unmatched gravitas to the director’s chair.
Also starring are fan favorites Kellie S. Williams (Family Matters) and Chandra Currelley-Young (Diary of a Mad Black Woman), alongside Rowell himself. Together, this ensemble delivers a film full of depth, humor, and emotional resonance.
